I have far more fun seeing what my students get up to these days than with my own work. So often I look at what they have done and think "Now why didn't I come up with that?" This is the page where I share some of those projects.

Anna Castleman

You might recognise this award winning art quilt from my book. Anna has an astonishing way of "seeing" texture and depth.

Thread Pictures

She uses her unusual gift to create landscapes using the thread waste from hand dyed fabrics, plant fibres and sculpting medium.

Lino Block Printing

Anna also loves to print with lino blocks. She turned this gorgeous dyed and printed fabric into a waistcoat.

Anna's Grandchildren

Of course Anna's grandchildren love tie dye too!

Annette Matthews

Annette first dyed the black stripes in the background, and then she dropped the prints on in gold ink. This elegant scarf will compliment any black suit.

Ashleigh Bungay

Ashleigh likes to hand dye fabrics in tonal shades for her quilts.

Tie Dyed Symmetry!

Ashleigh's orderly, neat folds and bindings produced this gorgeous geometric pattern.

Beverly is a fine technician and it did not take her long to perfect the spiral.

Brenda Wright

Tie dye can also be combined with fabric painting for striking effects.

Franci Lacquet

Franci is very adventurous and she experimented with a cotton fabric with a metalic thread running through it. She block mounted the pieces and turned them into this stunning feature for her lounge.

Glynis Jones

Glynis is one of my most enthusiastic students. Give her half a chance, and she will dye everything she can lay her hands on.

Black Coffee

Jacques van der Watt made this immaculate lino block after attending one of my classes.

Dye And Prints

He used Slipstream dye to dye the silk, and then he printed over that with the lino blocks.

Using these techniques he was able to create a custom fabric, specifically suited to his purposes. This garment showcased in Berlin where his collection Wowed the crowds and won him international acclaim.

Jenny Russell

Jenny Russell is another local designer who is finding value in our techniques.

Jessica Proffit

Jessica lives in Hermanus and makes her own line of childrens clothing for sale. She uses tie dye techniques and then finishes the garments off with embroidery.

Kathryn Celliers Louw

Kathryn aptly named this quilt Carnival In Rio. It is a delight of colour and intricate depth.

Kay Pridgeon

Kay dyed this piece of cloth in a class with me, and then went home and turned it into this beautiful quilt for her church.

Lana Wilhelm

Lana made this gorgeous sea green T-shirt.

Lee-Anne Hyslop

Lee-Anne entertains kids with tie dye. This is one of my favourite pictures of all time. Look at the anticipation on their faces as they wait for their butterflies to "hatch".

Lesley Jurgens made this quilt with fabrics that she dyed by hand with Slipstream dye.

Linda Botes

Hand dyed fabrics make gorgeous cupcakes. Linda made this happy quilt in pinks and purples.

Nicole Dersley

Nicole Dersley is another South African fashion designer who is finding value in our techniques. She made the fabrics for this dress herself, and showed it in her collection at SA Fashion Week in 2008.

Pascale Stanley

Pascale makes the most astonishing products using wool and felt. She achieves the most beautiful vibrant colours on a number of animal fibres.

Hand Spun Wool Roving

Pascale not only dyes her own fibres, she spins her own yarn as well.

Pat Butler

Pat shared the gift of tie dye fun with this group of children.

Petro van der Merwe

Petro made this gorgeous Snakeskin in teal. This technique is a chapter in Contemporary Dyecraft.

Photographers

Johan is a photographer. He needed a backdrop for a shoot in a hurry and he made his own with Slipstream dye.

Theatre

The teachers wore them on stage! Tie dye is vibrant and eyecatching and is a wonderful way to make costumes for theatre productions.
