![]() Photographic CreditsAll the catwalk pictures on this page were taken by Ivan Naude for SA Fashion Week and are used with his permission. |
![]() Marianne FasslerI produced these floating hearts on children's vests for four years running. This finish was very popular and we made them in several different colourways. Learn to make this finish in my book, Contemporary Dyecraft (Metz Press). Order your copy today and bring some couture-chic into your life. |
Hearts...Somehow, we always ended up making hearts somewhere for Marianne. This was one interpretation that I tie dyed on viscose lycra vests for her in a variety of colourways. |
![]() Meropa HeritageI was asked to interpret African basketware in a tie dye pattern on a white cotton base. This fabric was used for a man's shirt. |
![]() Stoned CherrieI dip dyed this habotai silk in four colours for Stoned Cherrie in 2005. It is a very delicate finish that requires meticulous methodology and this particular piece of fabric took more than six hours of intensive work to manufacture. |
![]() WheatThis is one of my favourite pieces that I ever produced. I created a geometric pattern on habotai silk for Stoned Cherrie in 2005. I took this production photo and delivered the job just a couple of hours after I finished it. I never got the time to get attached before I handed it over to Nkhensani. She made a beautiful flowing kaftan from it that went all the way to Fair Lady Lifetime Achievers Awards. |

![]() WaterThis is the same Water technique on chiffon silk that you will find in Contemporary Dyecraft. This is how it looks in rust and teal for Stoned Cherrie. |
![]() Black CoffeeI started with a plain white T-shirt fabric and I dyed a chequered background on in black. I went back over that with a grey basecoat to cover the glaring white areas. Afterwards we printed it with a hand carved lino block. |
![]() Geometric ShapesJacques favours strong lines and geometric shapes. I produced the hand dyed chiffon that he used for the sleeves. |
![]() Dip DyeJacques likes to experiment with dip dyed techniques in subtle hues. |
![]() Marion & LindieThis chiffon silk dress is one of my favourite pieces of all time. I started with a white shell, which I bound with very tight elastic bands to differentiate the two colours and create the white stripe. Then I dyed the top of the dress in blue, and the bottom in brown. Finally Lindie embellished it with delicate sequins to finish it off. |
![]() Layered SkirtThis layered skirt was fun to make, and rather intricate. I was supplied with strips of fabric which I split into two halves with different colours. These were then put together row on row for a lush, layered look. |
![]() Two Colour SplitThe two colour split always adds height to the model and looks elegant on the catwalk. |
![]() Sun GoddessThis was by far one of the trickiest production jobs of my career. We started with a white raw silk shell, and then we added the burgandy border. It appears at first that it should be a simple finish, until you bear in mind that the whole garment must be washed to remove the excess dye after process. |
![]() Sun T-shirtI was asked to interpret a sun on a T-shirt for Sun Goddess in their signature colours in 2005. |
![]() Rainbow NationThe scarf that the model is wearing is made from chiffon silk. This was the first time that I experimented with my Rainbow Nation design. This pattern is in Contemporary Dyecraft. |
![]() With LoveGeorgia made this gorgeous fairytale wedding dress under her label, With Love. I dip dyed the chiffon silk overlay of the skirt. |
![]() Wild FigI dyed the check pattern on the silk in the model's sash. Wild Fig produced the dresses in Contemporary Dyecraft. |
![]() BFineI carved this lino block in the early 1994. It was inspired by a tie dye pattern. It took me three weeks to make. We printed it on leather in 2007 for BFine for suites at Montecasino. |
![]() Lino Block Printed ChairUnfortunately the old lino block became too brittle to re-use and we could not repeat the order. This is a very limited edition original. |
![]() StrangeloveThis was by far one of the most unusual (and gruelling) jobs that I ever undertook. It required 26 different brown recipes to complete. I ended up colour sampling 56 to end up with the 26 that I used in the end. |
![]() JJ SchoemanI started with a white twill fabric, supplied by JJ, with the brief for "something African". I stitched in the shield shapes individually to ensure that they each came out clearly, and then I dyed it in mustard and brown. |
